She was a member of informal artistic group Močvara (Swamp) in Baranja, Croatia from 1988 to 1991, and studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence (Accademia di belle arti Firenze) from 1991 to 1993. In 1993 she continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, earning her degree in 1997. In the period between 2005 and 2010, she was a member of the Baranja Art Colony (BUK) artistic council. Since 2005, she runs the AŽ Gallery of Ateliers Žitnjak in Zagreb and has been a member of the artistic organization PLEH since 2007. At the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013, she represented Croatia with the project Between the Sky and the Earth (curated by Branko Franceschi). She lives and works in Zagreb as an independent artist.

The starting point of Kata Mijatović’s work is the opposition between two psychic spaces, the conscious and the unconscious, and their interaction. Her projects related to dreams as the basic constructive element comprise a special segment of her work. Dealing with the phenomenon of dreaming, these works problematize the perception of reality in the dichotomy conscious-unconscious and explore the function of the unconscious in the construction of reality.
